Milton Keynes

Our clients had bought a bungalow in Woburn Sands, Milton Keynes. They had carefully considered what they wanted to achieve with alterations to the bungalow. Briefly, this consisted of creating an open plan ground floor and opening up the roof structure to create a first-floor bedroom with an en-suite in the loft space. The existing roof structure could not be kept for this purpose, and so a new, taller roof was created.

We also suggested that given the radical nature of these changes, consideration should be given to improving the entrance area. There were many ideas introduced from the offset, and the clients were very open minded, giving each one full consideration. The final design managed to effortlessly accommodate everything the clients had wanted, plus more.

The resulting chalet now has a bedroom suite which overlooks the canopy of trees from the valley below. The interior has been modified and slightly extended to create a collection of individual spaces that flow together, so that you can pass through each one in an uncomplicated way, whilst easily taking in your surroundings.

Externally, the building was given more of a ‘facelift’. The raised roof structure was covered with a new slate roof, together with sprocketed eaves. The walls were clad in render and cedar, which enabled us to introduce more insulation underneath to adhere to modern standards. This, together with the limited use of metal on parts of the roof gives the house a much more modern, contemporary look.
